Out with the old, in with the new

While the above picture has nothing – I repeat, nothing – to do with it, I can’t help but see how easily it illustrates my new view of God (Krishna, on the left) vs. my old view of God (the Judeo-Christian stern old man, in the chariot on the right). In this context, I see Krishna wielding a weapon to destroy the old, judgmental, hellfire-breathing god with which I was brought up.

In reality, however, the man in the chariot is Bhishma, a primary character in the Mahabharata, and Krishna didn’t get around to actually throwing the wheel at him. You can read what the above painting is actually depicting here.
